Marvel has been peddling out a host of content one after the another for its fans in recent times. From films to series, phase 4 of MCU is introducing a lot of new characters. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the most successful among all the MCU releases in 2021. Hence, it is not surprising that a sequel to the film has been confirmed. Destin Daniel Cretton will return to direct Shang-Chi 2. He directed and co-wrote the first film as well.
In a statement, Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios said, “Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.”
Daniel Cretton will not only be working on Shang-Chi. He will also develop a new MCU series for Disney+. This comes after the news of a multi-year deal between him and Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective. However, there are no further details regarding either the series or the release date of the sequel movie. Shang Chi, starring the likes of Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Michelle Yeoh and Tony Leung became a fan favourite as the first film in the Marvel Universe to have an Asian cast.
Talking about his upcoming projects, Cretton said, “Working on Shang-Chi with Kevin and the Marvel Studios team was one of the highlights of my life, and I couldn’t be more excited about Tara’s (Duncan, president, Onyx Collective) vision for Onyx Collective. I can’t wait to explore new stories and build new worlds with this community.”
In other news, Kevin Feige, chief creative officer of Marvel has now settled a long going petition of the fans. He confirmed in an interview with Cinemablend that if Daredevil was to appear in the MCU, Charlie Cox will be cast in the role. He said, “If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil. Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen.”
Cox played the role of Matt Murdock for three seasons in the Netflix series Daredevil. He also featured in the spin-off series The Defenders. According to earlier reports, the actor himself is also quite enthusiastic if her ever gets the chance to return as Daredevil. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
